The Executive Committee set up the new divisions for the 2007/08 season on Wednesday night. The good news is that 74 teams (40 3-aside and 34 2-aside) will play next year.
But our success has brought problems. The 40 3-aside teams mean we will have to have 4 divisions next year. In theory the best solution would be 4 divisions of 10. The problem with this is that it would mean 2 teams losing their expected Div 1 place and 4 losing their Div 2 place. The Executive decided this would not be fair and has opted instead to keep Divs 1 and 2 at
12 teams and split the 16 'Div 3' level teams into two divs of 8. These new divs 3 and 4 will play each other 3 times in the season giving teams 21 matches each. The Executive has in mind moving to 4 divs of roughly equal size in 2008/09. This will be explained at the Secretaries meeting on Thu 13 September at WCC.
The 2-aside competition will have its 34 teams in 3 12 team format divisions with two vacancies. As in recent years the 2 aside divisions only will play separate autumn and spring competitions with promotion and relegation at Christmas.
Details of the new divisions now on the web site.
